My Story

Like many of my fellow crafters, I am a stay-at-home Mom who utterly adores my kid and spending time with him. To me, crafting is a win/win because I get a chance to do something I love and am also able to be at home with my son.

A little about me. I met my husband, almost 8 years ago now, while we were both working in Law Enforcement on the same squad. After being on the road for a few years, I had the opportunity to become a Detective investigating crimes against children. Helping children has always held a special place in my heart and being able to become a Detective in this area was my dream job. Needless to say with my job, I was always on the go and never imagined being the stay at home type. A few years later, my husband and I got married and became pregnant.

Here’s where my story is a little different. At just 22- weeks pregnant, I woke up one morning feeling extremely sick. I called the doctor who told me to go directly to the hospital. I wasn’t sure what to expect because, prior to this, I had the most amazing pregnancy (not even any morning sickness!).  After a battery of tests, the doctors explained to my husband and I that we would be in the hospital for the duration of our pregnancy. The thought of spending the next 4 months in the hospital was daunting but all I cared about was keeping my little peanut safe.

Unfortunately, at 24 weeks, complications arose, and I was diagnosed with HELLP disorder. I went into organ failure and was immediately rushed in for an emergency C-section. It was a very scary and confusing time for our whole family, but out of all of the craziness and chaos, our 1-pound 4-ounce Miracle baby boy was born!

Hudson quickly became the light of our lives. He fought each and every day (of his 127-day NICU stay) to learn how to breath, eat, and grow.  As I sat by his bedside day after day, I realized that nothing mattered more to me then spending as much time as possible with my son. Looking around the unit, I also realized how many other families were on this same emotional NICU journey. And from this, the idea of Miracle Maker Designs began.

As the parent of a micro-preemie, I know, firsthand, just how important every milestone and every celebration is. I still vividly remember the day we were told that Hudson would be able to wear clothes for the first time! It seemed like such a small thing, but meant we were moving in big directions (which was one step closer to going home). As we excitedly shopped around for clothes, I noticed a lack of choices in the preemie area. I started this shop because I wanted to be able to reach out and support other NICU families.

The focus of Miracle Maker Designs is to provide high-quality handmade preemie, infant, and children clothing and decor. Of course, with our roots in law enforcement, we also have a nice selection of police/law enforcement and first responder gear. Each piece is made to order and I love to personalize. So, feel free to send a message to the shop with your personalizations, ideas, and requests. I would be happy to make something special for you!

 The Cause

Meet Hudson

Hudson is the incredible inspiration behind the shop. From the moment he came into this world, he inspired and touched the lives of so many people. While in the NICU, he defied odds and statistics time and time again. There were so many people interested in his progress that we created a Facebook page (called “Team Hudson”) so that others could follow his journey through the NICU and watch him grow into the amazing boy he has become. Feel free to follow Team Hudson for updates.

Hudson is now a happy, healthy, energetic, 14-pound, 1 year old. His story, smile, and laughter have touched so many people and we hope to reach out to many more through our shop. He is truly our hero and our Miracle!

"Making It Matter"

We believe in miracles and supporting each and every one of them! From experience, I know that even the slightest gesture of kindness in the NICU goes a long way. It can make the toughest of days easier to get through knowing there are people out there who understand and care. And it is our goal, at Miracle Maker Designs, to give back to babies and families in NICU units.

I started this project by wanting to do something special for those who would be spending the holidays in the NICU that saved Hudson’s life. Because wearing clothes for the first time was such a memorable milestone for us, I figured it would be fun to make special preemie outfits to give as gifts, from one NICU baby to another. We made preemie bodysuits that said, “Miracle on Miller Street” (because the hospital is located on Miller Street and every baby in there is a true miracle!). Hudson hand-delivered the gifts a few days before Christmas.

After seeing the reaction of the families that we were able to meet while delivering our gifts, I knew that I wanted to continue to bring smiles to NICU units. Therefore, a portion of all sales from Miracle Maker Designs will go towards the “Miracle Maker Designs - Making It Matter” project, so that we are able to continue to donate specially designed preemie outfits NICU families. Through the shop and proceeds, I hope to be able to increase our NICU deliveries to multiple times throughout the year, not only to Hudson’s hospital, but also to other hospitals in the area as well.

Each year our family also participates in the Walk for Winnie, which is a fundraising walk committed to supporting the critical needs of babies in the NICU at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies. Any extra proceeds from Miracle Maker Designs will go towards donations for the walk and hospital where these tiny babies become big miracles!

Buying from us means that you can Make Your Celebrations Matter.
